History & modernity
IN park Slope living room

The faux 19th century hearth is a focal point. Of-the-moment lighting illuminates the space.
We slightly enlarged the chase (there’s no fireplace) to build a pocket that hides the TV wires. The Eastlake mantel, cast iron summer cover & Complete TIle’s crackle glazed hearth tile are lit by brushed silver sconces, wall washers & an industrial glam linear chandelier.

A wall that had created an entrance hall separated from the living room was removed & the solid front door replaced with a door with glazing, rendering the room the full width of the house & letting in the most light. Lackluster crown molding was removed to heighten the ceilings, while a substantial crown was added, but only to the chase.

Tweed sofa from Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams. Silver sconces are by Visual Comfort & Co. Ceiling-mounted wall washers from Lumens.com. Antique brass bin pulls, doorknobs and hinges. Farrow & Ball Black Blue, Lime White, Blue Ground, Wimborne White & Churlish Green.
