NYC Comptroller’s office & boardroom in lower manhattan
The redesign was driven by 1 Centre Street’s historic architecture & Comptroller Brad Lander’s focus on collaboration & productivity.
Lander served on City Council for 10 years, as Comptroller for four, and is running for Congress. The mid-century desk & credenza, found in storage, were refinished. The office featured New York-themed paintings loaned from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and artist Torild Stray,
All carpet, window treatment & paint color specifications adhered to city procurement guidelines. The board room furniture, selected for its flexibility, accommodates press conferences, working lunches & events. Norwegian artist Torild Stray participated in the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s World Views Initiative, which granted artists studio space in the Twin Towers from 1997 to 1998. Stray made the New York harbor painting that served as Lander’s backdrop for Zoom meetings during her residency on the 85th floor of the North Tower. Her monumental charcoal drawing, New York Metamorphosis, is in the 9/11 Museum.
