NYC Comptroller’s office
in lower manhattan

The redesign was driven by the iconic McKim, Mead & White municipal building & Comptroller Brad Lander’s focus on collaboration & productivity.
A mid-century desk anchors the office. New York-themed paintings were on loan from The Met & Torild Stray. The board room’s flexible furniture allows for press briefings, meetings & events.

Brad Lander served as NY City Council Member for ten years, and as Comptroller for four. He is running for Congress.

In the board room, Benjamin Moore’s Lady Finger, a pale golden beige, provides the perfect backdrop for the neoclassical friezes original to the 1914 municipal building. On the doors & trim, Benjamin Moore’s Silver Fox, a subtle gray, is complementary to the wall color & picks up the gray hues in the marble floor. All carpet, window treatment & paint color specifications adhered to city procurement guidelines.

Norwegian artist Torild Stray participated in the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s World Views Initiative, which granted artists studio space in the Twin Towers from 1997 to 1998. Stray made the New York harbor painting that served as Lander’s backdrop for Zoom meetings during her residency on the 85th floor of the North Tower. Her monumental charcoal drawing, New York Metamorphosis, is in the 9/11 Museum.
